About Us
Minneapolis-St. Paul Diabetes Educators (MSDE) is the Twin Cities metro area local chapter of the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE). MSDE is a non-profit professional organization.

Our Mission

Support development and growth of professional practice to promote healthy living through self-management of diabetes and related conditions.

MSDE will continue to develop an effective and efficient member-driven organization.
Research
MSDE will promote evidence-based research in diabetes self-management education/training and behavior change.
Education
MSDE will serve as a leader in education of its members, the broader healthcare community, and the community at large.
Integration

MSDE will advance diabetes self-management training as central to quality care and will advance lifestyle management for prevention of diabetes.
Advocacy
MSDE will advocate for public policy to improve access to services and supplies for those with diabetes or at risk for diabetes.
Membership
MSDE will maintain and promote an increase in interdisciplinary
professional chapter membership.

OUR OBJECTIVES

Goal 1:  Organizational Excellence:  MSDE will continue to develop an effective and efficient member-driven organization.
    1.1  Maintain effective management and governance.
    1.2  Develop and maintain a process of strategic planning to meet chapter goals.

  • Annually review MSDE Strategic Plan, board member goals and five year goals.
  • Develop policies and procedures for elected board members to effectively carry out the role.
  • Provide efficient and transparent communication to members via newsletters, website and email.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility.
  • Conduct a member needs assessment as needed.
  • Annual budget will plan for transportation cost for President-Elect to attend leadership conference.

Goal 2:  Research:  MSDE will promote evidence-based research in diabetes self-management education/training and behavior change.
    2.1  Contribute financially to the AADE Foundation to support diabetes self- 
           management education/training research.
    2.2  Promote translation of research into practice.

  • Annual budget will plan for the AADE Foundation contribution.
  • Increase awareness of the AADE Foundation funds, grant opportunities and research findings to the members.

Goal 3:  Education:  MSDE will serve as a leader in education of its members, the broader health care community, and the community at large.
    3.1  Provide at least four education offerings and a spring symposium annually for
           members and other guest professionals.
    3.2  Provide diabetes education to the community.

  • Based on member needs assessment, an expert speaker(s) will present a topic of interest at each general chapter meeting and spring symposium.
  • Affiliations with other professional organizations.
  • Participate in the AADE ambassador programs.

Goal 4: Integration:  MSDE will advance diabetes self-management training as central to quality care and will advance lifestyle management for prevention of diabetes.
    
4.1  Demonstrate the necessity of education for the prevention and management of
           all individuals across the diabetes continuum
.
    4.2  Demonstrate that diabetes education is provided in diverse settings.

  • Participate as leaders with the public health initiatives of the MN Diabetes Plan 2010.

Goal 5:  Advocacy:  MSDE will advocate for public policy to improve access to services and supplies for those with diabetes or at risk for diabetes.
    
5.1  Advocate for patient access to diabetes educators.
    5.2  Advocate for patient access to diabetes self-managment services and
           supplies.
    5.3  Expand membership involvement in advocacy.

  • Inform members about national and state legislative initiatives.
  • Communicate "calls to action" to all chapter members and information about effective means of communication to legislators.
  • Designate chapter representatives to participate in legislative initiatives.

Goal 6:  Membership:  MSDE will maintain and promote an increase in interdisciplinary professional chapter membership.
    
6.1  Develop a diverse membership that will enhance and promote benefits of team
           diabetes self-managment education/training and prevention.
    6.2  Increase membership recruitment by 5%.

  • Develop marketing tool(s) to encourage non-members to join.
  • Invite professionals from diverse disciplines and cultures to participate in chapter initiatives.
  • Provide incentives to retain current members.
